Information, advice and guidance

We provide advice and guidance in confidence to refugee, migrant and asylum seeking women at RWA's offices and on an outreach basis. We provide one-to-one advice to individual women or group sessions at refugee agencies, colleges and community organisations.

 

We can offer advice on:

1. English Language Courses (ESOL and IELTS)
2.  Rights and Entitlements
3. Access to further and higher education
4. Statutory Financial Support and Charitable Trusts that give grants to individuals
5. We also assist clients on issues relating to their children’s education
6. We provide specialist advice to refugee women health professionals on routes to re-qualification in the UK and job search skills. This includes the following professions: doctors, nurses, midwives, health care assistants and allied health professionals
7. Advocacy on family law, domestic violence, ensuring that they do not get unfavourable or discriminatory treatment 

 

Training & Workshops

We are a registered centre with Trinity College Londonand facilitate English for Speakers of English other Languages (ESOL classes) with students sitting an accredited exam. We run workshops on; I.T, Leadership, Rights & Entitlements, Environment Awareness, Employment and Citizenship. We also run a book club for refugee women doctors, nurses and health professionals to help improve their social English and understanding of the current topics. This is headed by a volunteer doctor who also provides the women with valuable insight to the field in the UK.

Employment & Volunteering

Assistance with job searching including preparing for interviews, CV writing, filling job application forms, advice and information on the UK labour market and available vacancies for accessing volunteering opportunities. We also help with professional re-qualification.

 

Fundraising for destitute clients

We assist with completing fundraising applications for destitute.

 

Campaigning and advocacy on issues that matter to refugee and migrant women

e.g. cuts in ESOL funding, family reunion, asylum ad detention centres.

 

Referrals to other organisations and service providers of whom we have links with in order to give the individual specialist expert support

 

OISC Level 1 to provide immigration advice

- Commonly completed applications include:

- Naturalisation as a British Citizen for women and their children

- Registration of a child as a British Citizen

- Change of Conditions

- Replacement of lost or stolen BRP cards

- Indefinite Leave to Remain

- Travel documents

- EU Settlement Scheme (settled and pre-settled status)

- British passports for women and their children

 

We also have a solicitor who gives free legal advice to our clients on more complex matters and applications at our premises every fortnight on Mondays.
